Foundry scrap – definition and description of grades

Foundry scrap is usually very uniform, consists of pieces of approximately the same size and supplies the same assay results.

We have the following grades in our range:

• Commercial casting scrap
  Commercial casting scrap is free of cast steel and furnace scrap and crushed to a handy size, e.g. cast iron pipe scrap, sewage pipes, plating and unfired gratings.
• Cupola furnace scrap
  Structural steel is mainly used here. Cupola furnace scrap is usually more than 6 mm thick and has a maximum length of 30 cm.
• Machine castings
  Machine castings, e.g. thick-walled pieces from machine tools, other machines and motors or engines, are usually not less than 10 mm thick and free of cast steel and furnace scrap.
• Rails cut to foundry size
  This grade comprises pieces of rail with a thickness of max. 30.
• Punching wastes
  Punching wastes are uniform punching wastes from a particular production machine, e.g. hammering machine wastes (dies, burr scrap), nozzles, billet ends.
• Deep-drawing sheet packs
  Deep-drawing sheet packs, e.g. car body sheets, are pressed into packs of sheet of various sizes. No foreign bodies or foreign metals may be pressed into the packs of sheet.
