General information on old batteries and storage batteries

The manufacture of batteries is a process that takes up a lot of energy. What's more, batteries contain heavy metals that have to be disposed of and recycled very carefully. Old batteries and storage batteries therefore do not belong in the normal household waste bin, and by no means in the environment.

Our goal is to reduce the negative effects of incorrectly disposed of old batteries and storage batteries on the environment or avoid these from the very start. This is why Interseroh has set up an effective system service for the collection and recycling of old batteries and storage batteries in Slovenia. On the one hand this allows the separate collection of old batteries and storage batteries as well as their reuse and recycling. And on the other hand, final consumers are given a free and easy opportunity to return their old batteries and storage batteries.

What is a battery, what is a car battery?

The difference between a battery and a car battery is that the car battery (secondary cells) can be recharged, something that is impossible with the classical battery (primary cells).

The aim of treating old batteries and storage batteries in Slovenia

We have set ourselves the following aim for the collection of old batteries and storage batteries (as regards the number of new batteries and storage batteries brought onto the Slovenian market):

  • to collect at least 25% of all old batteries and storage batteries by 26 September 2012,
  • to collect at least 45% of all old batteries and storage batteries by 26 September 2016.

The following recycling goals for old batteries and storage batteries have been set by 26 September 2010 (as regards the number of batteries and storage batteries collected in Slovenia):

  • 65 % for lead batteries and storage batteries,
  • 75 % for nickel-cadmium batteries and storage batteries and
  • 50 % for all other batteries and storage batteries.
