Company obligations to take back packaging
The Packaging Ordinance as well as the supplements to the Packaging Ordinance determine how old packaging is dealt in Slovenia. They are conform with the EU guidelines.
The ordinance regulates both the production of packaging and the packaging of merchandise as well as how to deal with the increasing share of old packaging for recycling.
The responsibility for dealing with old packaging lies with the companies who bring the packaging or packed merchandise onto the market for the first time in the Republic of Slovenia - the so-called initial distributors.
These include:
- Packers: companies or organisations that pack products under their own brand name or have these filled in this packaging;
- Manufacturers of packaging: for the packaging intended for refilling in the retail outlets;
- Buyers of the packed merchandise: buy the packed merchandise from the European Union or import this from the Third World and then sell it on the Slovenian market;
- Buyers of the packaging: buy the packaging for their own activities or for resale or import this on the Slovenian market.
The ordinance precisely defines the obligations of the packer, manufacturer of the packaging, buyer of the packaging and packed goods with respect to the old packaging.
